Morning Talk Discussing the recent death of Mr. Floyd and how it relates to martial arts. ラジカスキー真照2020-05-28T12:27:52+09:00 8 Comments Art May 28, 2020 at 4:58 pmLog in to Reply Agreed Sensei, what happened to Floyd was a terrible tragedy, and I would believe an abuse of power on the officer’s part. Unfortunately as you have put it, there’s not a whole lot you or I as general citizens can do on our end for it, aside from being good humans. I try to not dwell on the news myself very much as it can definitely detract from what I need to focus on to better myself and those around me. The mic quality is great by the way, thank you Sensei! From what you said, I think in a certain manner we touch to the essence of our practice. That’s another occasion to exercise to contemplate impermanence. What I would take away overall is it’s not about being perfect it’s about trying, after all the only thing we can change is ourselves Andrew (Norinobu) May 29, 2020 at 12:06 pmLog in to Reply Thank you for this, Saneteru-sensei. Your “ramblings” more than made sense–and I appreciated what you had to say. Your comments about the responsibility that must come with having power and authority hit home for me. As you know, I am in a position of authority–not with physical power, but with relational power. And if I’m not careful, I can really hurt people too. Sadly, like with martial arts schools, the police (and military) sometimes attract people who want the power without the sense of responsibility. I am grateful for the many who use their power well, but you only need one person to cause a lot of damage to people. Jenn May 29, 2020 at 2:33 pmLog in to Reply Thank you Sensei. You’re right. I really appreciate your sense of justice and responsibility. It’s extremely clear that it is the center of your study and actions. This is exactly why I am sure I’m at the right school. I ended up getting really depressed at the state of the world. I took just a few days break where I didn’t watch or read any news and the depression went away. Now when I get too sad about the world, I just take a break from the news. That’s good advice, thank you again Sensei.
