In 1888 the Tokyo Metropolitan Police department decided to cull various ryu-ha together to form a system of study for their police force. This inculded, sword, and bare-hand techniques (jujutsu,kenjutsu,iaijutsu) from different classical schools within Japan. Keishi-ryu Tachi-iai are the standing forms of sword drawing and cutting.
